Diggin In The Sneaker Crates: Rainbow Attack 2008
There was a point that in 2008 where we would see sneakers in some fantastically crazy colorways. Eastbay (in the catalog and online) started a whole section dedicated to the colors. At this moment while I am typing, I am trying to find my old Eastbay catalogs just to show you guys how crazy it got.
But I am sure those who got the catalog from 2008 already know what I am talking about.
So just how crazy did it get?

Save a Sneaker: Air Jordan 22 by BP of NikeTalk
(what if the AJ XX came out in these colors… would you get them?)
I Missed This Show – Strange Comfort
(does this look familiar to you?)
This is from an art show that happened a while back. It was done by Brian Jungen. Here is a quote from the Washinton Post about the exibit and the man behind it:
You could say that Brian Jungen, an Indian artist of the Dunne-za First Nation in British Columbia, is a classic shape shifter: He’s taken Air Jordan running shoes and turned them into ritual animal masks.
Or you might say he’s been possessed by the trickster spirit: He’s assembled the skeleton of a whale, sacred to so many of this continent’s first peoples, out of fragments of cheap plastic lawn chairs.
Those red, black and white Air Jordans, pulled apart and reassembled into masks, look a lot like the most famous Indian carvings of British Columbia and Washington state — but what’s that to Jungen? The coastal groups that make such carvings have almost nothing to do with his people, who occupy farmlands a thousand miles away, on the other side of the Rocky Mountains.
They have a slide show of what was shown. Very clever stuff. First seen on BookOfJoe
On Sale: New Balance 1906… looks cool but it will cost you
(New Balance… because why not?)
This particular New Balance sneaker will hurt your wallet bu 200.00. Yes, New Balance made a sneaker that you will have to spend around 200+ dollars (after taxes… that is if your state actually collects sales taxes). I guess this is priced for the serious runner and I will admit it just makes me curious as to how comfortable it is to charge so much.
Details from Eastbay
Full-length N-ergy™ offers a unique, supportive cushioning experience as it compresses upon impact, and the distribution of impact forces to give the New Balance 1906 running shoe an unsurpassed ride. LockDown™ liner wraps the foot for added support. NLock® integrated lacing and webbing system brings optimal fit, support and security. BIOCOOL® liner provides excellent moisture management properties and maintains a favorable environment for the foot inside the shoe.
Got you hooked? Eastbay got them from sizes 7 – 13. New Balance is known for having widths which bes the question: do this come in 4E? (No they don’t… 2E is the widest)
On Sale: Saucony Progrid Razor at Eastbay
If you are into… interesting… sneakers, then maybe you want to take a look at this particular kick up for sale at Eastbay. It has that Air Mowabb look to it that sort of makes me want a Air Mowabb.
But since I missed that boat this year, maybe this will comfort me at night lol
Its actually a handsome sneaker but admittingly it is not for everyone. Here are the details courtesy of Eastbay:
Go the distance in the Saucony ProGrid Razor trail running shoe. Three-quarter cut for protection against the elements. Breathable eVent™ lining adds waterproof protection. eVent™ fabric bootie. HRC™ Strobel board increases cushioning and comfort. YKK® zipper closure with hook-and-loop collar. Anti-odor and antimicrobial Ortholite® sockliner provides improved step-in comfort with rebound properties. Heel ProGrid™ with Respon-Tek™ deflection technology absorbs impact, dissipates shock and offers a seamless transition from heel through forefoot.
If you want them (for running on the trail or otherwise), they are at Eastbay for $134.99
the ladies seem to get the best colorways… New Air Max 2009+ in Black-Sport Red
(I can see the guys buying this one right now lol)
Nike has decided to show the ladies some real love with the Air Max 2009+ because release after release or a new colorway seems to be on the ladies side. Sure the men get the Volt and silver-red colorways but the ladies have almost 4 different non-disputable hot colorways AT LEAST.
The Air max 2009+ is the most comfortable sneaker I have even worn. I am sure its the same for the women. If you run (or do allot of walking) in the city, this is a pair of kicks for you. Personally I like running on the track with my Air Max 2009+ and leave the sidewalk running to the adidas mega-bounce. But if I had to choose one, it would be the Air max 2009+
Get them at Finishline right now. PRICE BE DAMNED! You need this sneaker if you want to feel true comfort while walking or jogging (running… well maybe not so much… I think it really depends on how you run and your foot, but when does it not depend on that?)
Guess what else is on sale today… Air Jordan 16.5 in White, Varsity Red and Black
(this is one freakin fly ass sneaker)
I am not sure if this came out earlier this week or what, but one thing for sure is that it is flying under the radar right now with all the talk about the Air Jordan 12 Rising sun and that other fusion 13 atrosity of a sneaker (yeah… I really don’t like the Air Jordan Fusion 13′s and it would seem the sneakernets agree). This sneaker is really a good look. I think I did see someone wearing them but when I looked for them at the store and online they were nowhere to be found.
I hope I can get these, but it doesn’t look good right now… money is going to other things (GASP) and its hard just to keep the money that I set aside for the Air Joardn 11 Space Jams alone.
If I don’t get the Space Jams, I swear I will just freakin cry for like 3 weeks. Ever see a grown man cry for 3 weeks? (No, neither have I seen that but I can imagine that its terrible)
If you are going to get them, Eastbay got them online right now for $124.99 (which isn’t that bad actually). 3 colorways avaiable including the famous BRED colorway.
PS – Varsity Red VS Infrared
Notice that they used infrared for both colorways that have red in them (whoops! it looks like BRED isn’t as BRED as you may thing because it uses varsity red as part of its make up and so does the other colorway)…. would the BRED colorway have looked better in infrared? Hmmmmmm… The Infrared and Varsity Red battle continues…
On Sale: Air Jordan 12 Rising Sun at Eastbay
(so they finally released it… so far NYC loves it)
Its been a while yall and I most certainly missed blogging these past few weeks. Setting up a new site that you are passionite about seems to take longer to finish than doing a site for someone else. Its like the art takes over and you loose sight of the science of it all… you know, the technical details.
Anyway I am back to blogging while I work on the behind the scenes stuff (crossing fingers for a November 30 grand opening). In the mean time, lets get back to this sneaker release. The Air jordan 12 Rising Sun was suppossed to release last month, but there was a slight problem with the insole having a symbl of the japanese army in them… or something like that… so because of that and the linkages to WWII trageties, the insole was stripped out.
The funny thing is if that was a problem, wouldn’t the whole sneaker also be a problem considering that it still based off of the Rising Sun flag? Just look at the profile of the sneaker…. hmmm… sure its not as direct, but its still there.
For all the hoopla, the sneaker still looks pretty good. I have seen in in NYC at least 3 times already and that was before the drama about the sneaker came up. Its a very smooth look for what for me seems a very hard sneaker to get the right colorway on. If I remember correctly back when they originally released they were popular but was not the most loved Air Jordan sneaker release. Now that it is retroed (for a second or third time… I forget) and the nostalgia sets in, it would seem that they are more popular now than they originally released.
I think these will do well. They look really good and would make a great summer sneaker (that is, if it was summer… guess we can wear them next year). I expect to see these come out again in the summer of 2010.
For those who got the original with the rising sun insole I would say you are rather lucky to get the original concept. If you are a sneaker collector I would save those insoles. They are probably not gonna ever be worth anything, but it still a piece of sneaker history.
They are on sale at Eastbay right now and all the sizes are still available.
November ???th, 2009…. The Saga Continues!!!
REMEMBER THIS DATE YALL!!!
NOVEMBER 4TH 11th ???TH 2009
(its looking like it will be the 30th… just putting the final touches on the site now…)
(don’t be surprised if you see something different here in the next week)
sneakersandshoes.wordpress.com is now blog.sneakersandshoes.com
new main magazine page on sneakersandshoes.com
Maybe you guys have noticed its been a while since i last posted. Well, I have been trying to get things together behind the scenes to make the blog and website more helpful for those who want to know what is going on in the world of sneaker and shoe culture. I also wanted a way for people to see and research (if they want) any pair of sneakers or shoes from the past or any news stories that had happened over the course of the year.
Setting that up is a lot harder than I thought. Its one thing to set someone else’s sit up, but setting up your own is TOTALLY different.
You can see the VERY raw site from tme to time while I am putting things in place. 2 things I would like to highlight is the Gallery and the On Sale section.
With the Gallery its all about what the whole community is doing picture wise. it can be drawn images, people wearing their sneakers or whatever. its mostly focused on Flickr but can be anything. Wallpapers will also be apart of the Gallery as well as some other surprises.
As for the On sale section, I have added a map that will include location of as many stores and boutique sneaker, shoe and fashion shops that i can find. Mostly it will be centered in NYC but will eventually span out across the USA
I hope you guys hang in there. It will be worth the wait.
Some of the things you will see after November 11th:
- New design for main site and blog
- A better way to interact with people on the blog
- Maps… what does that mean? You’ll find out
- Special blog posts on specific days – Friday Fashion Review for example
- Little tweaks in some categories and tags
- And more.
All the improvements will happen during the month, but the main one… change in url… has already happened (in case you guys haven’t noticed… should have warned yall, my bad). The design theme (still working on that one) may be delayed a little bit but I hope to have that totally straitened out before November 11th.
Posting for this blog has been fun and I look forward to doing more cool stuff in the future. See yall next week! Remember, Nov 11th ???th!!!! Mark it down somewhere.

Roberto Coin Gold Sneaker – Luxist
To celebrate the 2008 Beijing Olympics, jeweler Roberto Coin has created a few unique pieces including a $31,000 golden sneaker. The sneaker is made of 24 karat gold varnished nappa leather which is then coated with a PVC lacquered film. It is finished off with an 18K yellow gold clasp and Coin’s signature small ruby.
